We started the work on what would become Buendía on March 1st, 2020. We didn’t have any songs. Or a plan. Only the idea to do all of the work at home, play all the instruments ourselves, and do something that was interesting to us in the moment. We didn’t know that soon everyone else would be stuck at home, too.
The record has a lot more to do with the start of Spring than a global pandemic. It would be silly to say that didn’t influence it in some way, but this isn’t a quarantine record. We were already locked at home when it started. It’s an optimistic set of songs. We named the record after the family in Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. We hope you enjoy them when the full album comes out on May 29th.
